SAN DIEGO, CA — Thirty-three pets are safe Wednesday after being rescued from a flooded home in San Diego County.
After being contacted by the San Diego Police Department, San Diego Humane Society officers rescued 30 dogs, two chickens and one cat Tuesday from a home in the 3700 block of Shooting Star Drive in San Ysidro. The home was flooded because of a plumbing issue, according to San Diego Humane Society.
The animals are in the care of San Diego Humane Society’s El Cajon, Escondido, Oceanside and San Diego campuses.

Four dogs were taken to emergency veterinary hospitals. One of the dogs has since been released back into the organization’s care, San Diego Humane Society spokesperson Nina Thompson told Patch.
“The other three are expected to come into our care today for continued care by our medical teams,” she said. “Each animal will have an exam today.”

San Diego Humane Society is over capacity for dogs at all campuses and working to control an infectious disease outbreak at the San Diego campus. In August, the organization set a record with an average of 801 dogs in care per day.
“We are pleading with the public to help us open space in our shelters by adopting, fostering and attempting to reunite stray pets in their communities instead of bringing them directly to the shelter,” Thompson said. “It is imperative that we create space in our shelters to be there for pets and pet families in need.”
