BROOKFIELD, CT — Cingari Family Markets cut the big red ribbon in front of its 143 Federal Road ShopRite on Monday, signalling the grand re-opening of a highly renovated and lavishly remodeled grocery store.

Tom Cingari, Jr., vice-president of Cingari Family Markets told Patch “We listened to our customers every day, and we watched their buying patterns.”

The scrutiny has resulted in a doubling of space in the Prepared Foods Department, and a host of new features including a line of Cingari Family Markets chef-prepared entrées and sides, sauces, spices, and pantry staples.

“We now have a line of over 75 ‘heat and eat’ entrées,” Cingari said.

Also the beneficiary of a big upgrade is the store’s Floral Department, now sporting enhanced offerings for holidays and special occasions. The layouts and products in the Produce, Bakery, Seafood, Deli, Meat, Dairy, and Frozen sections have also been reimagined and re-worked for better variety and convenience. The floor was completely replaced,

Sustainability was a prime concern in the store’s rebuild, prioritizing energy-efficient overhauls for its refrigeration and freezer units, as well as lighted shelves throughout the store

Perhaps most extraordinary about the renovation is not what new products and features were added up and down the aisles, but how. The store never closed during the 6-7 months it took to complete the renovations, and the customers never saw anything being torn out, re-wired or gutted.

“All the work was done at night,” Cingari said. “And the store looks completely different from the way it did even 8 weeks ago.”

ShopRite is the registered trademark of Wakefern, a New Jersey-based retailer-owned cooperative, and the largest supermarket cooperative in the United States, with nearly 280 ShopRite supermarkets located throughout New Jersey, New York, Pennsylvania, Connecticut, Delaware and Maryland. Cingari Family Markets joined the ShopRite cooperative in 1991, after operating for nearly 60 years as Grade A Markets.

The Federal Road site is one of 10 ShopRite locations the family owns in the state, and Cingari said he has plans to remodel all of them, as well as expand their product line. The Stamford-based family business has been stocking shelves since 1929 and also owns and operates two more stores, under the Grade A Market brand, in southwestern Connecticut.
