OCEAN CITY, NJ — Ocean City is continuing to alleviate parking problems with the purchase of two private parking lots downtown.
The city will spend $3.3 million on the two lots at 812 Central Ave. and 820 Central Ave., which will add 44 new spaces to the city, Mayor Jay Gillian announced at a recent City Council meeting.
These lots are adjacent to the existing municipal lot behind City Hall.

Some of these spaces will be reserved for the police department, but only while the new public safety building is under construction starting next year, Gillian said.
This will be paid for by a $6.3 million bond ordinance, which is up for approval at the Sept. 26 City Council meeting.

The remaining $3 million in the bond ordinance will go towards Boardwalk improvements. This will primarily be on the north end between St. Charles Place and Fifth Street.
That funding will complement a previous $4.9 million grant Ocean City received from the state. Read more: $4.9M Grant Will Fix Ocean City Boardwalks
It will go towards repairing the deteriorated substructure near Third Street, improving storm resiliency and adding ADA-compliant ramps across the length of the Boardwalk.
