PITTSBURGH, PA — Collin Chamberlin has lived in New York City for the past six years, but he hasn’t forgotten his yinzer roots. How could he? The stand-up comedian recalls his Pittsburgh past for his audience every time he takes the stage.

“I talk about growing up here, I talk about my family, my dad and his outfits,” Chamberlin told Patch. “I talk about Pittsburghers. The one thing Pittsburghers are good at is that we are great complainers – between the traffic and construction, we complain a lot. I talk about the things that aggravate us.”

Chamberlin, 31, a Kennedy Township native, will be performing at the Improv at The Waterfront on Sept. 29.

He has carved out a successful comedic career, performing at nationally known venues such as Improv, Funny Bone and Helium locations. He has written for Sirius XM and is the host of a podcast called Hell Gigs. He also once shared a stage with Steve Martin and Martin Short.

Chamberlin once auditioned for a mysterious casting call that turned out to be for an extra for the pair’s show in Pittsburgh. The non-speaking role required a somewhat burly man unafraid to wear a kilt.

Chamberlin got the part and donned the kilt.

“There was a sketch in the show involving a human bagpipe,” he recalled. “You pick up Martin Short, he sticks his finger in your mouth and you play him like a bagpipe.”

Though sadly no awards are given for those type of performances, Chamberlin said it was a highlight of his evolving career.

Chambelin is the son of John Chamberlin, who is one-half of the highly successful YaJagoff! team. Along with Rachael Rennebeck, the pair produce a weekly program and podcast heard on KDKA-AM.

Has Collin Chamberlin received an invitation to appear on the podcast yet?

“Yes, but they might have been a little tentative to invite me on,” Chamberlin said.

Why?

“A lot of guests come on their show and talk about how great they are and this great brand they’ve developed, and I try to bring them back down to earth a bit,” Chamberlin said. “I’ve been on before and let people know that my father eats peanut butter out of a jar with a fork.”
