RIDGEWOOD, NJ — A former president of the Ridgewood Woman’s Club has published a murder mystery that was inspired by her real-life work with the club, a release said.

Susan Maroney, a local wife, mother and grandmother, has completed “Shattered Calm”, a tale that follows a woman’s club president who vows to solve the murder of the club’s custodian after discovering the body on the floor of an office.

Maroney’s book follows Sarah Peterson, president of the Calm Woods Cove Women’s Club (named after the town in which it is located), who gets pulled into the investigation to discover who amongst her small-town neighbors the killer could be, the release said.

“Expertly paced and full of suspense, Maroney deftly weaves a trail of clues and red herrings that will leave readers on the edge of their seats,” the publishing house said in the release.

Since retiring, Maroney has devoted much of her time and efforts to writing and photography — skills with which she has created a line of greeting cards called “Novelty Foto Notes”, which feature scenes of Ridgewood and have won numerous awards on the local, state and national levels.

She previously served twice as president of the Woman’s Club of Ridgewood, which holds meetings in a “fascinating old building that sparked Maroney’s imagination to serve as a backdrop for a murder mystery,” Page Publishing said in the release.

“Unnerving twists and turns occur” in the work, as Sarah Peterson begins to suspect some of her closest friends as the killer and needs to constantly be on her guard. She first doubted that such an event could occur, as her town of Calm Woods Cove has an almost non-existent crime rate.

But her doubts are confirmed “when the bloody corpse of Ralph Peterson is found on the floor in the rental manager’s office,” the press release said.

“Shattered Calm” can be purchased at bookstores, or online.
