However, the journey did not start there. Believe it or not, 5 years ago Modric was voted the worst signing of La Liga. Why? Because after signing for Real Madrid, he had made just 19 appearances with an average of 38 minutes per game and one goal.
The man took it in his stride. After all, he knew he had not delivered and it was time to step up his game. So he did just that.
One La Liga title, 4 Champions League titles, FIFA Best Player, World Cup finalist and a strong contender for the Ballon d’Or. Yes, that is what he has achieved in the last 5 years. Modric was not an overnight success. The man worked hard on his game and became one of the best play-makers around. Finding the net occasionally, but more often than not setting up his teammates. A leader by example, Croatia were a deadly unit under him as they almost scripted the ideal ending in the World Cup.
From being the least wanted player to the best, now that is something. He is the man, ladies and gentlemen. His name is Luka Modric.
