A romantic Valentine’s Day getaway to Goa turned tragic for this UP couple. The couple who had come to Goa to celebrate Valentine’s Day drowned in the Arabian Sea near a beach, police said on Wednesday. The deceased have been identified as Supriya Dubey (26) and Vibhu Sharma (27), natives of Uttar Pradesh.
They kept it a secret from their families
Keeping it a secret from families, Vibhu, who worked with a private firm in Mumbai, and Supriya, employed in Bengaluru, ventured into the waters near the Palolem beach in Canacona taluka of South Goa district for a swim after dinner on Monday night, police said.
Police said they were washed up on the Ourem stretch of the beach at different times and locations. The woman’s body was found at around 7 am on Tuesday at Ourem. Her partner’s body was later found at a short distance from that place in the afternoon, a senior official from Canacona police station said.
Supriya was drowning, Vibhu tried to rescue her
As soon as police received information about the incident, a team reached the spot and brought the bodies to the shore with the help of lifeguards. Police also said that Supriya and Vibhu were relatives and were vacationing in Goa for the last couple of days without informing their families.
They added that they were unable to identify her until they found a mobile phone on the beach and unlocked it using her fingerprint.
The police believe that Supriya was drowning in the water, and Vibhu was trying to rescue her when he also drowned.
They dined and had drinks before the tragic incident
According to local reports, the police obtained information about the deceased from the phone and learnt that she was staying at a nearby resort.
The statement of a staff member of a hotel, where the two had checked in, has been recorded. The staffer stated the duo had dinner and drinks before venturing into the sea, the official said.
The police ruled out any foul play in the deaths.
