CRYSTAL LAKE, IL — The Crystal Lake City Council approved putting up two signs near Crystal Lake Central High School commemorating the baseball teams’ first-ever state championship.
The team stopped out to a July 16 city council meeting where they were presented with the signs by city officials.

Mayor Haig Haleblian read a proclamation before handing over the sign, stating the team showed “perseverance, hard work, dedication and sportsmanship during the 2024 season,” finishing the season with a 13-game winning streak and a record of 22-14.

The team earned the Illinois High School Association Class 3A state baseball title on June 8, winning over Lemont with a final score of 3-2. It’s the first baseball title for the Central Tigers.
During the city council meeting, Haleblian also recognized head coach Cal Aldridge and the entire coaching staff, faculty, parents of the team and the Crystal Lake Central student body who were integral in guiding the team to victory through their unwavering support.

As part of the city’s “championship signs program,” which recognizes teams or individuals from the community that have won state championships, two signs recognizing the achievement will be placed near the school, according to city documents.
The signs will remain up for the next year, and then one of the signs will be given to the team as a memento.
