LOS ANGELES, CA — Police have detained a man suspected of sexually assaulting and punching a woman in a wealthy West Los Angeles neighborhood as she walked her newborn in a stroller in broad daylight this week.

The brazen attack rattled the community in the usually safe neighborhood.

Police received a report of a sexual assault Tuesday at about 5 p.m. in the 900 block of South Gretna Green Way.

“The male suspect approached the victim and began to thrust on her as she was walking her baby,” said Los Angeles Police Department Officer Charles Miller. “The suspect and victim struck each other, and the suspect took off on foot.”

The suspect was described as a male with long hair and no shirt. Miller told Patch the LAPD had a suspect in custody as of Thursday morning. He has not been publicly identified.

The victim spoke out about the ordeal.

“It was really awful,” Carmina Lu told KTLA. “I just would never expect anything like this to happen, especially one month after giving birth to a beautiful baby.”

“He grabbed me by the hips with both of his hands and started sexually assaulting me,” Lu added.

“The baby, thank goodness, was not touched,” Lu said. “Honestly, what scared me the most is that right before he ran away, he glanced at my stroller for a split second. If something had happened to the baby, I just would’ve been devastated.”
