LONG ISLAND, NY — The investigation into the slaying of a Long Island dad at the hands of his son who remains at large continues over one month later, a police spokeswoman said Friday.

Officers were called to a home on Quail Road in Rocky Point at around 1:25 a.m. on Nov. 9 after a 911 caller reported a stabbing, and they found 61-year-old Joseph Zoll, who later died at Stony Brook University Hospital, according to police.

Matthew Zoll fled the family’s home and then crashed a black GMC Yukon SUV at the intersection of 25A and the William Floyd Parkway in Shoreham around 10 minutes later at 1:35 a.m., Suffolk police said last month.

In the weeks after the stabbing, a combination of Suffolk police and deputy sheriffs, as well as rangers from the Department of Environmental Conservation, scoured the woods for Zoll, who is believed to be on foot, along Route 25A and William Floyd Parkway on the North Shore, seemingly with no success.

A police spokeswoman said Thursday that there have been “no updates” in the case, however, “all leads are being followed up on.”

Zoll is 6 feet 1 inches tall, weighs 150 lbs, and has brown hair and brown eyes, one of which has a small scar under it.

He was previously reported missing but then found unharmed back in April, according to a police news release.

Detectives are asking anyone with information about Zoll’s whereabouts, to call the Homicide Squad at 631-852-6392 or Crime Stoppers at 1-800-220-TIPS, a confidential police hotline.
