BURR RIDGE, IL – A fire damaged an apartment complex over the weekend in a neighborhood just outside Burr Ridge’s boundary. No injuries were reported.

Firefighters were called about 6:30 a.m. Saturday to the Hinsdale Lake Terrace apartments on Lilac Lane, which is southwest of Burr Ridge, according to the Tri-State Fire Protection District.

The fire heavily damaged one apartment, while seven others sustained smoke and water damage, the district said.

An entire 32-unit building had to be evacuated because DuPage County declared it uninhabitable, said Howard Hoffman, deputy director of fire prevention, in an email to Patch.

The county’s decision was because a gas shutoff resulted in no heat, Hoffman said. Some apartments, he said, may be occupied again later Tuesday if gas service is restored to undamaged units.

The cause of the fire is under investigation. Damage was estimated at $200,000.

On Monday, Hinsdale South High School said it is working to help the students and their families who were affected by the fire. Residents are encouraged to drop off gift certificates at Hinsdale South using the Door 1 security vestibule.
