ELMHURST, IL – A former NFL player told an Elmhurst officer last month he was in the area for a funeral before he was arrested on a DUI charge, police said.
Patch obtained the police report through a public records request.
The driver was identified as Kenny Golladay, 30, of Cresskill, New Jersey.

Golladay, a wide receiver, played for the Detroit Lions from 2017 to 2020 and the New York Giants from 2021 to 2022, when he was reported to be playing under a four-year, $72 million contract. The Giants released him in March 2023.
About 2:30 a.m. Oct. 8, an officer was in the parking lot at a liquor store near York Street and Butterfield Road when he saw a 2015 Mercedes-Benz S Class stopped at the green light, with its hazard lights on. A person got out of the back seat and ran to a light pole to urinate, police said.

When the person returned, Golladay turned off the hazard lights and stayed parked at the intersection for another 10 seconds, despite a green light, according to the report. Then Golladay resumed north, speeding 45 to 50 mph in a 30 mph zone, police said. He was stopped a couple of blocks later.
Golladay told the officer that someone in the backseat had to urinate. Asked why he was speeding, he said he was not, saying he just hit the pedal, the report said.
Golladay, a Chicago native, said he was visiting for a funeral and that he was driving home but acknowledged he was going in the wrong direction, according to the report.
Police said Golladay had slurred speech, red and watery eyes and a strong odor of alcohol on his breath. Asked how much he had to drink, Golladay said he had none but that he was just grieving, police said.
Officers said they found a tequila bottle on the back floorboard.
During physical tests, Golladay struggled, at one point almost losing his balance, police said. He refused to take a breath test, according to the report.
During one test, Golladay said he had no trouble walking or balancing, noting he played in the NFL, police said.
After he was taken to the police station, he was released.
Golladay was charged with DUI, stopping in the roadway, improper lane usage, speeding, and possession of open alcohol by a driver, police said.
