BRIDGEWATER, NJ — A crash with injuries at the intersection of Country Club Road in Bridgewater has prompted residents to call on the Township Council for safety improvements.

On Thursday at 5:30 p.m., a 50-year-old woman from Bridgewater, who was driving a 2020 Kia Sportage, was trying to make a left turn from Talamini Road onto Country Club Road when it was hit by a 2011 Cadillac CTS which was traveling north on Country Club Road, Bridgewater Police Sgt. Daniel Hennessey told Patch.

The Cadillac was being driven by Danielle Menzak, 20, of Annandale, said Hennessey.

Deanna Nye, whose home and property are across from the intersection, spoke to the Township Council at Thursday night’s meeting asking for safety improvements.

Nye invited Councilmembers to come “sit on my porch for an hour and you will see all the people flying by, you will see all the people blowing through the stop sign. Something needs to give.”

“My kids don’t play in the front yard. My new neighbors have little kids. If that tree was not there tonight that car would’ve ended up in their living room,” said Nye.

Nye previously pleaded with the Council in 2022 asking for the installation of a flashing stop sign or flashing red light. Read More: Residents Call For Safety Improvements After 2 Deaths On Bridgewater Roads

The call for the upgrades in 2022 came after a 96-year-old Bridgewater man died from injuries he received after crashing into a tree in the township on April 8 at the intersection of Country Club Road and Talamini Road. Read More: 96-Year-Old Bridgewater Man Dies After Crashing Into Tree

“We need to do something about that intersection,” said Nye on Thursday.

Resident Jennifer Loughran also confirmed with Nye that “that intersection is very, very scary.”

“I have seen a lot of things, we had the other accident that took a pole out. The pole completely cracked in half,” said Lourghran. “Personally I have had people blow through that stop light with kids in the car.”

Loughran added that she has gone skateboarding in the area and has seen drivers “looking at their phones, blowing through that stop sign. I definitely agree with Deanna that it is a treacherous intersection.”
