WEST ISLIP, NY — Suffolk County Arson Squad is investigating a garage fire that firefighters battled in West Islip on Monday, Suffolk County police told Patch.
Fire department officials said a call reported a structure fire in a residence at North Briarwood Avenue around 10:2o p.m.
Officials said First Assistant Chief Robert Celeste was on scene and confirmed an active fire in the attached garage of a “private dwelling.” Shortly after, Mohawk Engine Company 3-17-5 arrived and stretched a hose line to extinguish the fire, officials told Patch.

No residents were home when the fire occurred and one firefighter was transported to an area hospital with minor injuries, officials said.
Firefighters said the blaze “was quickly knocked down and contained to the garage,” and that it took around 40 minutes to bring the fire under control.

Mutual aid was provided by the Bay Shore Fire Department, Town of Islip Fire Marshals and Suffolk County police.
