DARIEN, CT — The Darien Board of Selectmen this week approved a tipping fee increase of $75 per ton for commercial haulers to dispose of Single Stream Recycling (SSR) at the town’s tansfer station.

“Currently, the Town of Darien does not charge a fee to haulers to dump SSR at the town transfer station. As of July 1, 2024 Win Waste (formally known as City Carting) will be charging the Town of Darien $75 per ton to haul away the SSR from the transfer station,” Darien Director of Public Works Ed Gentile wrote in a memo to the Board of Selectmen ahead of this week’s meeting. “Therefore, as of July 1st, the current fee ($0) for receiving SSR versus carting off SSR from the transfer station will be generating a loss, therefore a move to increase this fee is now being requested.”

The fee will be implemented July 1, Gentile told the selectmen this week, calling it a “one for one deal.”
