LAKE ELSINORE, CA — A motorcyclist crashed into a BMW sedan Monday morning while traversing the northbound I-15 at speeds over 100 miles per hour, according to California Highway Patrol officer Mike Lassig.

Shortly before 7:30 a.m., the motorcycle was sighted heading northbound on the I-15 in the #2 lane at speeds over 100 miles per hour, Lassig said.

“At the time of the collision, it was somewhat foggy,” Lassig said.

The motorcycle “center-punched” the BMW’s rear end, and the rider was flung into the roadway, he said.

An ambulance took the rider to Inland Valley Medical Center with serious injuries. Though the BMW driver complained of pain and minor injury as a result of the crash, it was unclear if he was taken to hospital.

Witnesses told CHP dispatch operators that the rider was “weaving at high speed before the crash.”

No one was arrested, and the California Highway Patrol is investigating the incident.
