CARLSBAD, CA — Police were investigating a possible gang-related shooting Thursday after two people were shot and wounded from another vehicle in Carlsbad.

A vehicle crash and gunfire were reported around 9:20 p.m.Wednesday on Alga Road between El Fuerte Street and Xana Way, according to the Carlsbad Police Department.

Officers found a person inside a vehicle who had been shot, Carlsbad police spokesperson Denise Ramirez said. The victim was taken to a local hospital.

A second occupant of the vehicle who had also been struck by gunfire fled the area with a third uninjured occupant of the vehicle before police arrived, Ramirez said. Both were found at another local hospital. Their injuries were not considered to be life-threatening.

Police Lt. Eric Kovanda told Patch that the three occupants were men between the ages of 19 and 23. None of them were Carlsbad residents.

“Evidence suggests that the involved vehicle was fired upon from a second vehicle and that the matter may be gang related,” Ramirez said. “The investigation is ongoing and there is no further information for release at this time.”
