After India put on 390/5 vs Sri Lanka in the 3rd ODI, Gautam Gambhir joked during the innings break that the Men in Blue would win by 300 runs. The former Indian opener did not know how right he would turn out to be.

Sri Lanka were bundled out for 73 and did not even make it to half of their allotted overs. India won by a record 317 runs. It is now the highest victory margin in the history of ODIs. India are the 1st to win an ODI by a margin of 300 runs or more in the format’s 52-year-old history. It beats New Zealand’s 290-run win over Ireland in 2008.

With the World Cup around the corner, this record will be a big boost to the Men in Blue who will also have a home advantage. This victory also gave us 3-0 clean sweep and it also means India have won their last 4 ODIs.

On a wicket where tons from Shubman and Kohli slammed tons to help India amass almost 400, Sri Lanka did not even make it to 3 figures.

For the moment, this record belongs to India and we may not see it broken for some time.
