Shubman Gill’s 126 completely destroyed New Zealand in the 3rd T20I and helped India clinch the series 2-1. It was his maiden T20I ton, in fact, his first fifty-plus score in the format and is also the highest individual score by an Indian in T20Is.
Gill now joins a list of international cricketers who have tons in all 3 formats. For India, he is the fifth to achieve that feat. But this rich form is hardly a surprise as his ODI skill spilled over into T20Is.
In his last 10 international innings, Gill has made 4 100s and 1 50. So at least five times the man goes past fifty. That’s once in 2 innings. With the ODI World Cup this year and the T20 edition next year, this is good news for India.
Not only is Gill scoring consistently, he is also doing so quickly. No deliveries are wasted and the team certainly benefits.
The man is only 23 and has years of cricket left in him. The right-hander appears to peak at the right time which is just what India needs.
Gill has a long way to go but is on the right track at the moment. India will pray for more such knocks to keep on coming from his willow. The way things appear, Gill may only be getting started and all this is a sign of things to come, a prelude to something even greater.
So let’s wait and watch as the man who as of now can do no wrong continues to entertain us with his deadly blade.
