Mixed news for Jaco Taute and Darren Sweetnam Source: INPHO

MUNSTER HAVE CONFIRMED that Jaco Taute will be staying with the province until June this year but they are going to have to plan without the injured Darren Sweetnam for the next six weeks.

Springbok Taute’s loan period has been extended, which is good news for the province as Sweetnam is set for a spell on the sidelines after sustaining a knee injury in the PRO12 clash with Leinster on St Stephen’s Day.

25 year-old Taute has made 11 appearances for the province, scoring five tries.

Munster have also secured the services of scrum-half Angus Lloyd until June with the 24 year-old having joined last November.

“Thankfully all parties have successfully come together in permitting us to secure Angus and Jaco for the remainder of the season,” said Munster Director of Rugby Rassie Erasmus.

“We were keen to retain the services of both players as we move on to our next fixtures. With Cathal (Sheridan) continuing to rehab a long-term ankle injury and Conor (Murray) unavailable to us during the international window. Angus will bolster our options at scrumhalf.

“Similarly, with Jaco already in the system, having him available as a fullback or centre will be invaluable as our backline options will need to adapt with international commitments and following recent injuries to Alex Wootton, Bill Johnston and Darren Sweetnam.”

Elsewhere on the injury front, Tommy O’Donnell will need further investigation into the ankle he suffered in last Saturday’s PRO12 victory against Connacht.
